Digital Parcel Mapping
Burnett County started digital parcel mapping in 1988 and since then has made a lot of progress with over 33,000 parcels mapped. We start out by re-monumenting where the original Government section corners were set before we parcel map each section. Along with parcel maps the County also has aerial photos from 1998, 2006, 2009 and our most recent flight was done in the spring of 2015. The parcel maps can be overlaid onto the aerial photos for analysis purposes.
Burnett County’s Geographic Information System (GIS) is a very important tool that the Land Services Department maintains. A GIS allows the user to do more than just graphically display data, but also do queries and analysis by incorporating other related information such as tabular data to make intelligent decisions.
This technology is a real asset in not just emergency situations, but also a time saver in day-to-day analysis for others that use this investment.
Various layers that are included in the GIS are:
- 911 Address Points
- Road & driveway centerlines
- Fire, Ambulance & First Responder districts
- Hydrology (lakes and rivers)
- GPS locations
- Postal districts
- School districts
- Supervisory districts
- Public land
- Zoning classifications
It is constantly being updated with newer data everyday.
