Faithful Service.
The village school is at present having vacation. The teachers and scholars have been working hard during the winter to accomplish something of benefit both to themselves and to the community at large. There is one person in the service of the school whose position seems very insignificant, but if absent a day, or if not attending to his duties the consequence might be more serious than if any one of the others are absent. This person is the janitor. The winter has been a very hard and trying one for the janitor and it remains yet to hear of a complaint against him. During the cold weather in January and February the janitor had to be at the furnace all night attending the fire and many a bright, cool morning he wended his way towards the school house between 2 and 3 o'clock in the morning in order to keep the rooms at an atmosphere suitable for the teachers and the pupils. There has never been necessary to quit school on account of snow or cold as far as the janitor concerns.
He
has shoveled snow around the house and attended to his many duties in a very satisfactory manner. All this for the remarkable low wages of $12 per month. In the meantime he has attended school and made a good progress in his studies and it is with pride that Prof. Steve counts Axel Sjoblom, the janitor, as one of his pupils, of which he is really proud.
