CCC Camp Riverside 626
|Taking Hwy 77 east of Danbury approximately 7 miles, and then south on Lakes Drive, you will find the site of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp. In the height of the Great Depression (1933-1942) President Franklin Roosevelt created these camps for the purpose to put men back to constructive work. These camps were created for the men to stay while they were working on reforestation, parks and other recreational facilities. This site has markers showing where buildings were located. Some sidewalks and a decaying fireplace remain in their original locations.
