Burnett County Ag/Extension Committee Meeting
Monday, July 18, 2005
Minutes

I. The meeting was called to order by Maury Miller at 9:30 am in Room 162/63 of the Burnett County Government Center on Monday, July 18, 2005.

Notice was posted according to open meeting law requirements.

Present: Maury Miller, Charles Peterson, Gene Olson, Douglas Stubbe, Marilyn Kooiker, Mike Kornmann, Julie Yezek, Marleen Seul (recorder).

II. Motion to approve the June 20, 2005 minutes made by Gene Olson; seconded by Charles Peterson. Motion carried.

B. Agent Reports:

1. Family Living
Marilyn Kooiker reported on her activities for the month. The month's activities include attendance of the state WACEC meeting in Ashland on June 26-27; meeting with the Housing Collaborative on June 28; and, portfolio work for promotion to associate professor.

Kooiker also advised the Committee of upcoming events which included judging at the Barron County Fair on July 21 and being involved with the Burnett County Ag Society Fair on August 25-28.

2. WNEP Program
Julie Yesek reported to the Committee on the senior pedometer program, which was a great success. A total of 1,344,077 steps were taken by participating seniors. Plans are to write a cardiovascular grant for an expanded program for next year.

Other activities included teaching at Siren Elementary School the week of June 27. Children learned about eating more fresh fruits and eating healthier snacks.

A. Department Head Report - Doug Stubbe

1. Expense and Budget 2005 Update
Stubbe informed the Committee the 2006 Budget includes a $5 million increase for EFNEP with $1.5 million in a new line item called E-Xtension.

2. Dean's Wisline
Primary topics were the Budget and the State WACEC conference.

3. Additional
Stubbe also reported on the CPAG meeting on June 28, which had a low attendance. Burnett County will be receiving a total of $300 for having a CPAG Program in place. The next meeting is scheduled for September 27.

3. 4-H Youth Development

Highlights of Stubbe's report include:

Stubbe also updated the Committee on upcoming events which include: 4-H camp, Garden Tour, a 4-H exchange trip with PA youth, and the Grantsburg Ag Society Fair.

4. Community Resource Development

Michael Kornmann's report included:

Vouchers were reviewed.

Motion to approve vouchers made by Gene Olson; seconded by Charles Peterson. Motion carried.

IV. Set Next Meeting Date
Next meeting date set for Monday, August 15, 2005 in Room 165 of the Burnett County Government Center.
