Minutes
I. The meeting was called to order by Vice Chairman Charles Peterson, at 9:30 a.m. in Room 165 of the Burnett County Government Center on Monday, November 15, 2004.
II. Notice was posted according to open meeting law requirements.
Present: Charles Peterson, Gene Olson, Mary Falk, Marilyn Kooiker, Douglas Stubbe, Mike Kornmann.
III. Motion to approve the October 18, 2004 minutes, was made by Olson, seconded by Falk. Motion carried.
IV. General Business
A handout on WACEC Nominations for 2005 Public Issues Leadership Development for April 17-20, 2005 was distributed.
A handout was distributed on the UW-Extension timeline for moving to Responsibility Based Culture.
A. Department Head Report:
An update was given on the Community Partner Advisory Group. Marilyn asked for any other suggestions of people to invite to the group.
An update from the Dean's Wisline -WACEC district meeting scheduled for March 11. District Dept. Head Wisline followed regular meeting. The WACEC survey is coming to Committee members directly. Criminal background checks will now be required for all new hires in Extension. All new hires now will be internal and external recruiting.
2005 Budget update - The van was the only thing cut from the capital expenditures, but may be submitted again next year. All other requests were approved.
The Summer Horticulture Agent billing was paid, $900. Approved in February 2004.
Upcoming Department Head Activities:
-End of year reports due.
B. Agent Reports:
Mike Kornmann, Community Resource Development - A steering committee meeting will be held November 17, 2004 in Frederic for the Leadership Program.
BCDA board continues to work on organization and rebuilding of the committee and its expectations. Charlie Peterson asked about the progress on WITC and its potential presence in Burnett County.
Mike attended the Criminal Justice Conference in Cable. Ten people from Burnett County attended.
Tourism update: Hopes of developing a monthly electronic newsletter "What's Happening in Burnett County", is in the works. The Birding Trail event is working towards organizing as its own organization. The name would be "Upper St. Croix Nature Coalition."
Mike is a member of and serving as treasurer for the planning team of the Joint Council for Extension Professionals annual conference in Milwaukee, March 30-31, 2005.
Doug Stubbe, 4-H/Youth Development - The 4-H Music Contest was held November 5, 2004 with 33 members participating.
The 4-H Leaders Meeting was held November 9, 2004. The leaders decided to move the food and clothing revue to Thursday, July 7, as part of the Burnett County Fair.
October 30-November 5, Doug attended the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents Conference in Oklahoma City.
Doug attended the Criminal Justice Management Conference in Cable, WI on November 12. Prior to the conference, a discussion took place with Judge Gableman regarding re-establishing Teen Court in Burnett County.
A 4-H member manned exhibit was displayed on November 9 at Northwoods Crossing for a Youth Expo sponsored by Kinship and AODA.
Doug will be submitting a mini-portfolio for review during February. This is part of the UW-Extension Tenure process.
Doug will be part of the Public Relations Committee for the 2006 NAE4-HA Conference in Milwaukee.

Jan. 25 - Volunteer Leader CertificationMarilyn Kooiker, Family Living - Marilyn participated in a conference call with the state liaison and Grace Gee, WNEP Coordinator in Spooner to discuss District Family Living/WNEP plans for 2005 and a Family Living District Wisline. Duties include planning district meetings and programs for the coming year.
Worked with Julie Y. at Mina Copeland Head Start on October 25 to present a puppet show on Fight BAC (bacteria).
Marilyn attended an HCE fall meeting on October 25. There were 18 members present.
A United For Students Project conference will be held in March 2005 in Baltimore. Marilyn will seek possible grant monies available through the state and District Professional Development Funds to offset cost of the trip and hopefully attend.
Marilyn attended the Criminal Justice Management Conference at Lakewoods in Cable, WI.
A house dedication for the Habitat for Humanity family was held on November 13. Marilyn completed the home ownership/financial management meetings with the family.
Upcoming Family Living Activities:
-United for Students Project Steering Committee meeting at Grantsburg Middle School, Nov. 16.
-First Book Family Workshop at Hertel Head Start, November 18.
-US Project phone conference, November 22. Madison Specialist and Wausau school principal involved.
-Bullying Satellite, November 30 and December 7 in Room 165 at 5:30 p.m. Promotional materials sent out.Grace Gee, WNEP Coordinator & Julie Yezek, Nutrition Educator - A submitted report was presented by Marilyn Kooiker. They attended the WNEP Annual Conference on November 3 and 4 in Stevens Point. High points of the conference were shared.
Julie and Grace are participating in training with other stakeholders in Burnett County for a campaign to be held from March - August of 2005 titled "Stepping Up to a Healthy Lifestyle".
Programs for October/November, 2004:
Fight Bac Puppet Show for Siren and Webster Kindergarteners
Fight Bac Puppet Show for Head Start at Mina Copeland
Fun Family Cooking Program with Head Start Parents
Siren After-School Program; played Fitness Pyramid Game and made apple carousals to eat.
Worked with Missy Peterson in 8th Grade FACE class in Webster on Fat in Fast Food.
7th Grade Health Classroom in Webster teaching the Sugar in Pop lesson. Taste test went well.
Taught at WIC-Importance of eating breakfast and pumpkin muffin
Had two visits with Northwest Passage about "Fat in Fast Food" and "Sugar in Pop" lessons.
V. Any Other Business
Discussed the holiday schedule for the county.
Mary Falk provided an update on a grant they are working on.
An update on the Climbing Silo was given by Gene Olson.
VI. Set Next Meeting Date
Next meeting date will be held on Monday, December 20, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. in Room 165 of the Burnett County Government Center.
