Apply for an Address - Fire Number

If you are planning to build a new structure on a lot without an address/fire number, you will need to obtain one.

Several years ago, Burnett County adopted a Uniform County Address System. It is conducted with the cooperation of the county and the townships. It is somewhat like a city street, avenue address system but modified for rural application. It combines the concept of fire numbers and fire number signs with addresses. This action was taken to improve response time for ambulances, fire trucks and law enforcement.

The initial point of contact is the Burnett County Land Information Office. When you send in your application and a $150 payment, (to help, cover the cost of the sign, sign post, installation, etc.) measurements are made between your driveway and your neighbor's driveway. The resulting number is put into a formula to determine your address. A sign is ordered and delivered to the township in which your property is located. The sign is installed by township personnel.

If you intend to get a telephone, you will need an address first as this is an integral part of the 911 system. Also, many insurance companies require an address before they will insure your property.

You can print the Application, fill in the blanks, and send it to us with a check for $150 (effective May 1, 2007) made payable to: Bumett County Treasurer.
