    Ever wonder what our ancestors used to tie their shoes? Join Primitive Skills Instructor, Larry Roberts for a class making natural cordage. We will learn what types of materials to use, how to make the most of the natural material, and how best to splice for making long lengths for fishing line and lashing.   8. The Spark 5K, The Blaze Half Marathon, The Inferno 19 Miler

    May 28, All Day @ Siren Veteran's Park

    5K, Half Marathon (13.1 miles), 19 miles running races. The Spark (5K) starts at 8:15am. Registration is $25 until 4/30/16, $35 after 4/30/16. The Blaze (13.1 miles) starts at 8:00am. Registration is $45 until 4/30/16 and $50 thereafter. The Inferno (19 miles) starts at 7:30am. Registration is $55 until 4/30/16 and $65 thereafter. Races benefit the Siren Fire Department.

  9. Forts Folle Avoine Opening Weekend with Yard and Plant Sales

    May 28, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM @ Forts Folle Avoine Historical Park

    Opening Weekend activities include the always popular Plant Sale. Locally grown plants are offered, including native prairie plants, herbs, hostas, heirloom varieties, ground cover plants and an array of perennials and annuals. Museums and Gift Shop are open. The Yard Sale will have a large variety of household goods (no clothing). Period-dressed guides conduct walking tours of the reconstructed Fur Trading Posts and the Ojibwe village: $10 age 13 and over; $8 Military, College Students, or age 65+; $6 age 6-12; free for children under 6. This is the only known site in North America where two competing fur trade companies established side-by-side fur trade posts. Wild Rice Pancake Breakfast, Sunday, May 29, 8am – 12:30pm; $8 adults, $6 children over 6, free for children under 6. Enjoy Wild Rice Pancakes, Sausage, Eggs and Beverages.
