Preserve Your Shore Tax incentives available! |
We love our lakes and rivers here in Burnett County
We believe that keeping our shorelines natural is one of the best ways to ensure their enjoyment for many generations.
Natural shorelines ($$$$ available!!!)
Keep the water clean by filtering runoff and holding the soil in place.
You can help by preserving your shoreline
If the vegetation along your shoreline hasn't been altered except for minimal clearing to allow access to the lake, we urge you to maintain it. You are doing your part to preserve Burnett County Shorelines.
If your shoreline has been cleared extensively, financial and technical assistance are available to reestablish native vegetation. You can then take steps to preserve this new shoreline buffer over the long haul.
While shoreline regulations preclude removal of vegetation and in some instances require replanting the shoreline, we are asking for an additional voluntary commitment. We ask that you show this commitment by placing a covenant on your property stating that your shoreline will remain natural. This covenant allows a thirty-foot wide viewing and access corridor to the lake or river.
We'd like to show our appreciation
We'll pay you to enroll in the program. A payment of $250 will follow after an initial inspection that certifies your property meets program standards, and the shoreline covenant is recorded.
You'll receive a classy shirt that identifies you as a natural shoreline supporter to your friends and neighbors. We'll ask that you place a small sign identifying your commitment at your shoreline.
And we'll provide a little thank you each year when up to $50 is deducted from your tax statement.
Please complete and return this form to find out more about the shoreline incentives program.
