Land Information OfficeThere are three components of the land information office - the County Surveyor; the Mapper; and the Real Property Lister.
County Surveyor
The County Surveyor preserves the position of Original Government Corners which are the basis for all land ownership in public land survey states such as Wisconsin. All Plats of Survey and other related survey information are filed and indexed with the County Surveyor.
The County Surveyor/Land Information Supervisor is also develops parcel maps which show deeded descriptions of parcels of land and their relationship to each other, roads and lakes. Address assignments and the 911 maps are also developed and maintained.
County Mapper
The Burnett County Mapper is responsible for the collection, creation and distribution of data to be used in a variety of county mapping projects.
Other responsibilities include assisting the County Surveyor with the checking, indexing and distribution of survey information.
Real Property Lister
The Real Property Listing Office is the "gate keeper" of the assessment and tax procedures for the county. Working in conjunction with the municipal clerk and assessors, the RPL insures the validity, accuracy and continuity of the records.
The RPL receives all sales and transfer documents recorded at the Register of Deeds. The records are reviewed for accuracy in title and description before the records are changed to reflect new ownership. The RPL also reports violations in the local and county ordinances, DNR regulations, historic site disturbances etc. to the appropriate authoritative agency.
Information held in Real Property Listing includes: ownership, mailing addresses, property addresses, legal description, current subdivision activity, current assessed value, mill rates for all taxing jurisdiction, assessment ratios, parcel and filed maps, custom computer reports and educational seminars on land rights and taxation.
